Rich Exner works with the trends team, overseeing cleveland.com and Plain Dealer coverage of medical, business, real estate, travel and regional development news, as well work by the data reporter. Rich, who joined The Plain Dealer in 1991 after working for United Press International,  specialized previously in data-driven stories at The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com. At different times, he also covered transportation, county government and other beats, was a sports copy editor and an assistant metro editor. A native of Bellaire, Ohio, who got his start in journalism at the newspapers in Wheeling, West Virginia, Rich is a journalism graduate of Ohio State University. A father of two,  he lives in North Olmsted with his wife.
